If you only want the measurable perfection in a picture, sure your digital full frame camera will do the work. But still there are artistic values in being forced to think twice before pulling the trigger and waste a frame on the film.
Some times doing things the old ways is education you for doing better practice of the new ways.
Hand cranked and 3-4 fps sounds like a lot of fun for me. But if you want to do “Die Hard 12” you might want to go a completely different way! 😉
I understand, (I think,) but I don’t agree. Film still has its place and its advantages, but this ain’t it.
You go through a half ton of supplies and 20 bucks of film just to see what something looks like at 3 fps and 35 mm? What if you have the light wrong? What if the focus is messed up? What if 1/100 is too slow? What if the central piece of action comes too late?
This is for the kind of people who refuse to use cell phones and computers because their home phone and etch-a-sketch works fine.
I am sorry, but ever since they invented the full frame digital, Lomography is just a way to take expensive and inconvenient low quality photos. If that is your hobby, then it is a free country, go crazy.
But then you put a hand crank on the camera so it can go through supplies faster, and take even LOWER quality pictures? Why in the name of Edwin Land’s dog would you want to do that?
And then once you take your shakey and jumpy movie, you know you are going to transfer it to a computer so you can see it. If electricity goes to $1 a minute tomorrow, then I will go back to shooting film for some things, but not for movies.
For movies, I will buy myself a solar panel and shoot with my phone.
The sample movie on their webpage looks exactly as I expected. I guess this movie camera offers more fun than I could handle …
so…. for a roll of film and developing… u get a 3 second movie?????

We’ll soon see an app for the iPhone doing the same effect….
…there already is an app. The point is that people want something fun and different. Otherwise, there’d be one camera in the world. Probably called the iphone. I’m sure it’ll have a 20 megapixel sensor in a couple of years.
