Used Leica M 240 – $6495 – Owned by Mark Spitz
Was browsing over at pop flash.com today to see if they had any interesting goodies and noticed that they have a black Leica M 240 for sale, used, for $6495. They say it was owned by Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz. Hopefully it never took a swim with Mark, lol.
Either way, it appears to be a great buy for someone looking to save a little on a new M 240. Also comes with a Thumbs up, soft release and letter from Mark Spitz. You can see the details over at PopFlash.com HERE.
This camera is a good deal seeing that it has $500 off and comes w warranty as it looks like the M is SOLD OUT again at most other shops.
If he needs the money can’t he just pawn a gold medal?
Don’t get me wrong Kevin, I absolutely love my M-E and was ecstatic to finally get it back. It is everything I want from a digital camera. I rented a Nikon DF for a bit to see how I’d like it, and I much much prefer shooting with the Leica.
It was just such a bummer to have the issue.
But I had film camera back ups, so I managed… So get the M, just make sure to hold onto your film cameras!
Well, that’s discouraging. I have been eyeing the M-E/M9 for awhile due to convenience (as opposed to film Ms), but maybe I’ll stick to film…cheaper sensor and more readily available! 😉

Since Leica warranties are not transferable, I’d pay the extra $500 for a new one.
Especially going from my recent experience with my M-E
The M 240 has not been registered and carries a NEW Two Year Leica USA warranty.

Agree. My M240 is at Leica service because of a failing sensor line. Without warranty that may be pricy. D!RK
What happened with your M-E?
Needed a new sensor after 9 months of use. Took 4 months to repair as Leica HQ had no stock and it was backordered from the factory.
Leica should include a spare sensor with every new M digital.

This should be of concern to Leica M digital owners.
In an edition of the UK photographic magazine Amateur Photographer last year an M8 owner was horrified to learn that Leica could not repair his M8 which had suffered a failed lcd screen. They didn’t carry any spares. They did offer him his purchase price against a new M9, but that is not the point.
This problem won’t be unique to Leica as digital cameras age, but then most don’t cost what Leica does.
Yours was repaired, but 4 months!
