Just for fun! It’s Friday, the weekend is here and I have had some fun today shooting with another new toy 🙂 I posted this to my facebook page earlier and asked readers to “name the camera and the lens”! There have been MANY guesses there ranging from Leica M, to Sony RX1, to the newly announced Lomo Pretzval lens. I figured I would also post it here for fun to see if anyone could guess the camera and the lens used for this. If you have a guess, leave it in the comments. Tomorrow I will post more from this camera/lens combo and spill the beans on what it is.
Have fun!
Can you guess the camera and the lens used for this image? If so, take your best guess in the comments!
UPDATE:
It is NOT the Nikon V1 and 35 1.2 or 18.5
It is NOT the Leica M 240 and Noctilux
It is NOT the Sony RX1
It is NOT the Olympus E-P5 or OM-D with 20 1.7
It is NOT the Samsung NX300 and 30 f/2
It is NOT the Leica X Vario
What is it? Find out tomorrow afternoon! 🙂
nikon v1 + cctv 24mm 1.4
M240 + 50 1.5 ZM?
Leica M9 + 50mm Noctilux F1
Ricoh GR
Leica M240 with Canon 50mm f/0.95 “the dream lens”.
The lomography petzval portrait lens, on the Leica M 240
so happy it wasn’t the Nokton 42.5mm f0.95
I saw image with parrots not long ago on this site, but can’t find it now. What was those lense..interesting maybe image was done with that lense.
oops, I should take a look at the home page)
Yeah! I got it!! ))
I know the answer Steve . Is the new Hasselblad special edition Angry birds 1 . 🙂
My Hasselblad Donkey Kong Edition has terrible barrel distortion.
It is the M240 + 50 Summicron… killer bokeh and dof.
Looks like it was shot with a potato 😎
Given the shape of the bokeh (eye-cat), and the weakness in the corner, I would say a 50 1.4 mounted on a nex body with a chinese lens turbo. For example : nikon 50 1.4 ai-s, nex 7 and mitakon lens turbo.
It’s very obvious that it’s a Voigtlander 50mm nokton on a Leica M240. It’s the old fashion bokeh but modern contrast.
Based on all of the NOTS, I would guess the Leica M with Summitar, or perhaps a NEX, Samsung or m4/3 with the Summitar.
lensbaby on your m ??
Helios 40-2
new Petzval lens from Zenith.
prolly some plastic lensbaby lens
That was my first thought. I think this will show most of us can’t tell the difference between cameras and lenses. To me the Bokeh is not that pleasing, but some might love it. The weird shaped Bokeh on the left could mean a bright lens wide open.
Nikon V1 & 32MM F1.2
Nokia Lumia 1020 and Carl Zeiss 8.02mm ?
Looks like a lensbaby
You’re all quite wrong… the picture is in fact, an oil-painting. Those distinctive cadmium yellow brush strokes in the background give it away… 😉
X100s
a 5cm
summitar or summar lens with an m240? (:
Hello everyone.
I give you the answer right away, or would you expect it to Steve to play a little?
Seriously, hormi swirling bokeh, the case does not inspire me.
Good weekend to all.
Summarit 50mm/1.5 on M9, I think.
summitar 50 on M240?
Lomo Pretzval lens + adapter on M240
Oops typo… I meant on a full frame sensor/body
Looks like a summitar but the very shallow dof makes me think summarit 1.5 with some a frame body.
This is helios 40-2 85mm f/1.5, for sure. But it’s really hard to tell the body. Maybe, because the wall is slightly red, its canon 5d (m2-3)
I believe this was taken with M240 plus Nokton 50/1.5.
Leica M240 and Nokton 1.5
The new Petzval!
Can’t be the Petzval. They are crowdsourcing for that. Though it looks like a cool idea.
Alright. If it is not a Nikon lens, it could be a nikon sensor. Knowing that sevel imes things fast, I suggest a Voighlander SL II SLR 58mm F 1.5 on a D600 body.
The Bokee looks like my Summaron 35mm 2,8f
Fuji X + 35mm/1.4
Hasselblad Lunar!
Zenit Helios 85mm – no way of guessing teh camera though…:)
Canon 50mm f0.95 / on a nex maybe a 6?
Summitar lens.
Wild guess: the new Ricoh GR?
Impossible to name the camera but the bokeh and shallow dof points towards the 50mm 1.1 Nokton
Busy bokeh, so Voit… that lens and camera… no idea.
I reckon it is the Jackar 34mm on a m43 body (most likely Olympus as I don’t see panasonic hues). I have this lens and love it!
This is the Voigtlander lens you have showing us over the last weeks, the chrome one. And it is probably mounted on the 240.
Right???
Nikon 1 series (? J3) 32mm/f1.2
See the update in the post. It is NOT the Nikon 1 with 32 1.2 🙂
oh man ……. thanks!!! that helps …… lol
Samsung 30/2.
Gotta be the Lomo Pretzval lens, don’t know about the camera, maybe Nikon D600 since the lens works natively with canon or nikon cameras?
toy lens on a big sensor camera?
Dear Howard, you seem to be pretty close.
This is either a cheap toy lens or a very old one, with very poor rendering of the margins.
If the lens is old, we are talking about 0.95 to 1.5.
What I am concerned about is the unbelievable lack of visual knowledge here in this forum.
How can anyone seriously suggest this is a Leica Noctilux, old or new one?
Oh my God!
I don’t think it’s the Noc… however.. a noc shot with poor rendering of the margins below??
http://markuspuustinen.com/blog/uploads/2010/07/vaahtera.jpg
small sesor and fast lens, v1 and 35mm 1.2?
50mm something old f/1.2 or f/1.4, No way is that a new lens. Very likely on a Leica M because that would allow full-frame use of a 50 (note the vignetting). I’m iffy on its being a Leica anything because of its little flaws, but I’m not aware of Steve having any mid-market lenses going. Whatever it is, it’s old and well used. No way is any reputable lens maker now coming out with new lenses this swirly! So I’ll bow to those who know Leica lenses on the specifics. But I can’t help but suspect it may be a Minolta or Pentax on an adapter…
I use a lot of older Minoltas and most have very nice bokeh. 135/2.8 PF (the cheap one), 85/1.7 and 58/1.2 are all bokeh cream-machines, with lots of guys retrofitting Canon EOS mounts to shoot them digitally or using adapters on mirrorless.
I use mine on an old XE-7 film SLR.
helios m42/44 lens with nex ?
Canon 5d3/85mm 1.2
must be Petzval Portrait Lens
Canon 50mm 0.95 on a Leica M240.
M240 Nokton 50mm f/1.5
Nikon V1 w/ summarit wide open. Looks cropped in. Ry
Well I don’t know how you could possibly have it yet but it totally does look like the lomo Petzval reincarnation.
Leica M240 + Canon 50mm f0.95
Canon 50mm f/0.95 Leica M240
Hmmm… the bokeh is slightly edgy and the DoF is quite shallow. I’d say it’s a mid-to-long lens. Maybe a little soft at the edges? (hard to say not knowing the aperture – guessing it’s wide open) Colour is punchy.
My mind says you’re probably testing a ‘modern’ lens, but my gut says it’s an old soviet lens.
Although I’m sure to be wrong, I’m going to go with…
My crazy guess: Russian Helios 85mm 1.5 (Sony NEX)
My more realistic guess: Noctilux 50mm 0.95 (Leica
(yeah I know, two extremes) 🙂
It’s the Nikon V1 with the HOT NEW 32mm f/1.2 Lens shot wide open!
A Swirly-Twirly Gumdrops camera owned by Elf 😉
A summitar from the fifties and olympus om d
Olympus EP5 and Body Cap Lens 15mm F8
My wild guess: a NX300 with a Helios 44M adapted?
my guess…..Sony RX1
Leica M240 with a Nokton lens ( chaotic and less creamy bokeh ).
Helios pretzel, m9
It’s a Nikon with a Petzval… Swirly bookeh of a petzval…
Zeiss ZM 50mm f/1.5 with Leica M240
Not the shallow DOF of a Nokton or Noctilux wide open, and not leica Bokeh. It is niceL pehaps a Simmilux 35 on a M8.2, but Steve doe snot have one of these. I think the sensor is a simple design and the lens is fast, which makes be agree with asiafish.
I think it is a V1 with the 35 1.2
Wild guess: Olympus PEN E-P3 and Oly 45mm / f1.8.
M and summarit 50 mm f/1.5 LTM (adapted to M mount). Swirly bokeh, and warm M color…
Yup, what Ashwin said 🙂
Thanks AR, was beginin to think you were holding out on us 😉
Or, maybe the Nokton VM on a M…
Nobody told me there was gunna be a test 😛
Nailed it IMHO Ashwin.
Yep, what I reckon too.
Just guessing from your current interests, I’ll guess the Samsung NX300! Don’t know their lenses, though.
My guess is the new 50mm f/1.5 nokton and the M240
Its Notctilux Definetly
this looks like a toy lens, like my CCTV 24mm 1.4 lens. this could be shot with olympus or a nex 🙂
I agree the horrible swirly bokeh looks like a cheap cctv lens, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was an old Leica…. 😉
That was my first thought on the lens is either a toy lens or an old Leica (based on that swirly bokeh) Camera is impossible to tell with a lens like that IMO.
I just had a horrible thought, I really really hope it is not the new Voigtlander 42.5mm f0.95, say it isn’t so Steve.
iPhone 5? Just kidding. Nikon V1 and 32/1.2?
Noctilux (the second model at f1 ) and m240
50mm f/1.5 Summarit on M240
+1
Zorki &. Jupiter 8
noctilux and M240
Rx100II ?
I think it may be a Leica X2 and nokton lens
I think it’s a Summitar lens. Not sure about the camera tho!
SLR magic 0.95+Leica M8
