Your best B&W CONTEST! Win a new Wotancraft City Explorer “Paratrooper” bag!
Hey guys! It has been a while since I had a contest here and decided it was time to put one up again. I have had this bag sitting here in my house for a couple of months and not being used so decided it should go to someone. I could sell it but I could also give it away and with all of the news of the Leica Monochrom camera coming in August, why not have a Black & White photo contest? Should be fun! So I am giving away this lovely Wotancraft City Explorer Paratrooper bag.
SUBMIT YOUR BEST B&W photo starting NOW!
This one is easy and simple. You can submit one and only one photo to me for this contest. The rules are below:
- Photo must be Black & White and no larger than 1800 pixels wide horizontal or 680 pixels wide vertical.
- Photo can be digital or shot on film. No extensive PP is allowed (changing the photo) but light PP is (levels, contrast, sharpen, conversions)
- Photo can be of anything, just make it your favorite B&W shot that you have taken!
- This contest is open to everyone, worldwide
- You can send image starting NOW through June 15th and I will post a top 10 on the site on June 20th.
- When submitting include your name and address in the e-mail so if you win, I know where to ship the bag.
- Send ONE image only and make sure to follow the size rules.
That is it! I decided that I will choose the top 10 and I will use polling again to choose the winner. These are the rules so if you do not agree with them, do not enter 🙂
So if you want to win this bag, you can send in your submission starting NOW to me at steve@stevehuffphoto.com. Good luck!
Hi Steve,
Looking forward to seeing those black and whites. Did you get hundreds, thousands of photos?
Cheers
Oliver
PS: Thanks for all your hard work and all the reviews. They helped me decide to make the move from my LX3 to the OM-D, 14mm and 25mm. Loving it so far.
Hello Steve,
I have sended the photo to you few days ago, but I forgot to put my whole address…. Is there are chance I would be considered as one of the contestants and maybe resend you the address just in case?
Hope everything is ok
Best regards,
Jacek Koperkiewicz
Good day Steve! I’ve resized my image down, but it appears so small. I use Photoshop Elements 10 went to edit image size in pixels. ‘Am I doing this right? The original size is 4912 pixel wide and 2760 pixels height. Now the size is 1200 pixels width and 674 pixels height (to keep image proportional without breaking limit rules). It’s about the size of a matchbox now on my computer screen =). I have never resized an image and I apologize for such a stupid topic to ask about, considering that everyone who follows this website knows how to this simple task =). I apologize once again, I just really don’t want to miss out on this great contest.
Thank you for your time, Jacob.
1200 wide is OK. I only need 680 wide so anything up to 1800 pixels wide is great, Thanks.
Are partially colored photos valid for the contest or is it all B&W only? Thanks!
B&W only. Thx
Sent! Hope you like it 😉
hi steve,
do we get an confirmation mail if our photographs arrived you?
At least I don’t have to push the scan of the film to ISO 10 000 as in Fred and Miranda’s competition. Trouble is that some of us shoot black and white and love these competitions.
Best of luck with the judging, Steve.
Are you posting the submitted pictures?
Only the top 10. No way I can post over 1000 images….I do have bandwidth limitations as well as time limitations. Sorry!
we can create a flickr group or use a hashtag on google plus or something like that…
Hahah… Steve is getting to pick 10 photo from 14,597 submissions. Go Steve!

“This one is easy and simple” ….& I just dropped my taco!
Hey Steve, I think your mailbox is full or something because I’m getting an error. Says mailbox quota exceeded.
Thanks
I got a similar error:
ALl fixed now 🙂
how do I know what the size is ????? how do I measure 1800 and 680 ?? sorry for my ignorance …..
Steve,
No wonder our educational system is going down the drain. Imagine for 1 second what teachers must go through when they give out an assignement. All the questions they must answer, when ALL the answers are in the assignment. You said it yourself:”This one is easy and simple”
Black and white, worldwide, 1 photo each, simple isn’t it?
the bag will be mine ;);):)
lets see
im from the philippines. can you ship it here just in case? 🙂
Yes, of course.
Mild sepia ok?
Steve,
Oh my god. Now i don’t know which photo i should choose. 🙂
I want to ask, saying that no extensive post-processing is allowed, would be allowed to send photos edited with lightroom & Silver Efex Pro 2? Those are pretty simply tools, but even with those, the finished material looks quite different from the RAW file. 😉
And with the size, if rhe photo is horizontal, it should have a 1800x@@@ dimentions, and when it’s vertical, it stays at 680x@@@.
What about an EXIF data – we should erase it, or not?
Sincerely,
Ignacy.
how to send the pic to you i dont understand clearly???
Hi Steve,
I’m ready to submit but want to confirm…. “no larger than 1800 pixels wide horizontal or 680 pixels wide vertical” the spec. asked is OR not AND… am I correct Steve?
THANKS
brill.
Hi Steve, I was wondering what other gear lying around you might have for grabs for the next contest. Perhaps your NEX 7?
Can you confirm whether converting colour images to B&W is allowed within the PP rules please?
Thanks!
Unless you are shooting on a Leica Monochrom, any black and white digital image will have to be converted from colour at some stage 🙂
Man, I wish that M9 came with it! As much as I poke fun at their pricing, I sure wouldn’t mind trying that baby out.
The bag looks excellent.
Great. Submitted my entry. Being one of the ten in the selection will almost feel like winning already … ha.
Is added vignetting ok?
Hi Steve
That’s awesome! Thank you for the contest!
Just one question: Do you mean that the size shouldn’t be longer than 1800 pixels on the long side?
Exiting and great idea. Looking forward to see the pictures.
Hey – we’ve already got a Leica M tribute challenge going on over at FM. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1113317
Feel free to join us there as well! 😉
wow! I think I’ve ‘shot my load’ in regards to BW photo’s here already, I would like to enter though. Steve, what types do you like? This’ll give us a better idea of what floats your boat
Just submit your ONE favorite B&W photo. 🙂
Hi Steve. Here is a picture of my boys at the beach. I call it “Beach Brothers”. Enjoy.
DSC00611 – Version 2.jpg
To enter you must follow the rules and email the photo in, not post it here. Thanks.
Thanks : )
Hi Steve! Thanks for putting up the contest! Woohoo!
Is using in camera art filters ok?
Looking forward to submitting!
can it be something that I had publish before?
Sure.
So if only sharpness, contrast, and levels can be changed – does that mean that color photos cannot be changed to B/W? Or does saturation count as levels?
I think it just means: no shopping. Don’t add or remove elements. Keep it true.
Conversions is allowed, he says. I guess that means you can convert a picture from colors to B&W.
this bag is a dream to me! i will search for the best photograph i have…
thx, dude!
This is awesome Steve!
Thanks Bradley!
