Hi Steve,
I regularly read your web site that is for me a great source of inspiration, both for the beautiful articles you write and for the “Daily Inspiration” series! I began taking picture with a Kodak DX6340, a small digital compact camera, in 2003; at that time I was taking picture of whatever I thought it was interesting for me and only with time I’ve discovered what is my passion: street photography!
I would like to be able to shoot with a Leica, since this is the camera used by one of the greatest streepher of all the time, Henry Cartier Bresson, but I’ve no enough money to afford a digital one – so I mainly take pictures with a nikon D700 and some nikon and Zeiss lenses.
I’m not a man of too many words and I prefer to let my work speak for itself. Many thanks for taking a look at these, and for all your hard work on the site.
Take care,
Daniele Bufarini

Your shots are wonderful, the motion in the bike shot adds so much to the image. The steam adds to that steely cold feeling in the first image. Never apologize for your camera. The best camera you can use is the one you have and the more importantly the one that’s paid for. I regularly work with vintage cameras and lenses, they can be very inexpensive with amazing results. For me the subject matter and the aesthetic determine my choice of camera, format, film/digital capture, and lens. I leave my Leica home quite often. I might head out with a Rolleiflex, a Sinar view, or one of my favorites a Agfa Isolette. I might even shoot the Sinar with paper negatives.
Check out my pics, its all about the image and yours are wonderful!
Thanks!
I’ll have a look at your flickr’s strem asap 🙂
Cheers,
Daniele
I love the guy with bicycle, great
Thanks so much Renaud!
shot 3 is nice but 1 & 2 seem way over processed, the grey faces of the two people in the bottom right on #2 seems strange
Hi Tyler,
pictures #1 and #2 were developed as they’re on purpose: in the first case what I wanted was a mood à la Gotham City, exactly as Ray said. In the second shot I wanted the spotlight on the kissing couple because, for me, they’re the real subject of this shot.
Thanks for your comment! 🙂
I think efix comment was with tounge in cheek. For a street photographer, #1 is not a street photograph, but more a urban landscape or so.
Really nice series, true street photography, I love the mood you managed to capture, and the last one is one of the best shots I’ve seen recently 🙂
@Alexii: I understand you, NYC is so fascinating that is very difficult remaining concentrated on taking pictures 🙂
@Darell: thanks for your kind words: they’re much appreciated!
@Ray: when I post-processed the first shot, I was just thinking to Gotham City 😀
@RexGig: it’s a great compliment knowing that my shots make you want to see NYC! Thanks so much 🙂
Daniele, these are wonderful images, regardless of the camera, but moreover, the D700 is a truly great camera, itself. There is something I really like about each of your images. Not only do I like the art, but it makes me want to see New York City.
I absolutely love the timing of the second shot. It not only captures the kiss but the other girl beside them looks like she is in emotional distress which is in stark contrast within the single frame.
The third shot is very well thought out especially with regards to the way motion is handled and the first shot is quite atmospheric. Reminds me of the fictitious Gotham City.
Kindly keep on inspiring.
As Efix says the first one is pure street but I also really like the moment and tenderness you have captured in the second shot. Don’t worry about the camera, you do good stuff with what you have now!
efix, Chaiporn, Sylvia and Julio: thanks for your kind comments! 🙂
@Julio: I know, it’s not the camera (or the lenses, by the way) who makes the difference… thanks for your encouragement!
D700 is a NICE camera! Sometimes I have those feelings too, “I need a Leica” but even when I do want one, I focus myself on mastering the one I have, so maybe in the future the people will say, “I need a Idm2 like Julio” 😉 . What I try to say is, you are taking terrific pictures with your camera, break the sterotype and create your own legend! Show the world you do marvels “even” with that “poor” Nikon!
Perhaps a Leica will only give you a different experience, and well, lets be objetive, very good rendering, but even though, your camera is TOP quality!. And hey, you are using Zeiss glass!
Cheers 🙂
I love the kissing couple photo.
I’ve recently been to NYC two months ago and now kicking myself for not engaging in street photography that much. 80% of the time I was looking up the skyscrapers and the billboards of Times Square.
Nice, nice photos, Daniele.
Hi Daniele,
Many thanks for sharing your interesting images. The first image is probably my pick of the three.
Best,
Chaiporn
#1 — street photography in the truest sense of the word 🙂
