Takes time to not shoot the tourist style of shots. I guess the time needed is based on how different the culture (shock) is to your own. That and language capabilities and understanding the why? of the actions of those about.

Thanks for your kind comments. Mike, that picture was taken in Tibet, where pilgrims travel for hundreds of kilometres to the holy capital Lhasa, prostrating all the way. There are a few more pictures of this practice in the Flickr photostream.
